Our staff includes:
Emergency Management/911 Director, Michael O’Brien and Emergency Management/911 Deputy Director, Kevin Stitzinger who lead the coordination of disaster preparedness, response and recovery, planning, and training. .
Our 911 Telecommunicators are trained professionals, always ready to answer emergency calls with efficiency and compassion. As dispatchers they work tirelessly to help coordinate emergency responses, directing law enforcement, fire, and medical personnel throughout the course of every emergency that takes place in the county. They are the first - first responders when you are in need. Together we work as a unified team to protect and serve the responders, residents, and visitors of Pocahontas County.
What is an emergency?
An emergency is any situation that requires immediate assistance from the police, fire department and/or EMS. If you are not sure whether the situation is a true emergency, Dial 911 and we will help. Examples of when to call include:
Is there a threat to life or property?
Are you or someone else the victim of a crime?
Medical Emergencies
Fires
Vehicle Accident
When you call or text 911
A 911 professional telecommunicator will answer your call and ask questions to get you the help you need. Remember to remain calm, speak clearly, stay on the line, and try to answer all questions. While you are on the phone the telecommunicator will then relay the information to the appropriate response unit so they can respond to your location.
Be prepared to answer the following questions:
Where is your emergency? Location - Street address, Road mile markers, geographic coordinates, or simply the best description you can give.
What is the phone number you are calling from? So that 911 can call you back if you get disconnected.
What is the Nature of the Emergency? Fire, crime, medical condition, etc.
Provide specific details: Vehicle information, suspect information, event description, injury description and/or medical history and symptoms
