Pocahontas County Local Emergency Planning Committee
The mission and purpose of the Pocahontas County Local Emergency Planning Committee is to support the safety and well-being of Pocahontas County by preparing and implementing emergency plans, including those pursuant to WV Code §15‐5A‐7 and 42 USC § 11003, and with priority given to protection and safety of the lives and property of Pocahontas County residents and guests in the County at the time of an incident.
Under the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act, Local Emergency Planning Committees develop an emergency response plans, review the plans annually, and provide information about chemicals in the community.
Plans are developed with stakeholder participation. LEPC membership must include (at a minimum):
Elected state and local officials;
Police, fire, civil defense, and public health professionals;
Environment, transportation, and hospital officials;
Facility representatives; and
Representatives from community groups and the media.
Voting members are appointed by the County Commission.
The public is encouraged to attend all meetings. Meetings are announced in the Pocahontas Times.
